Assesments
The long-term value of an assessment is directly correlated with the quality of the debrief. It is nearly impossible to remember ‘what you are’ if you never really understand how the instrument works, what your results mean to you and about you, and to people at work.
There is no one assessment that has the ‘answer’ to who you are, why you do the things you do, and what you will do in the future under certain circumstances. However, there are many valid instruments that provide valuable insight into the probabilities of your feelings, perceptions, and behaviors. Most coaches have their favorite assessments; the ones that resonate most with them. When a coach is comfortable with an instrument, they are more likely to provide a meaningful debrief. When the debrief makes sense to the client, then it becomes a foundation upon which trust and rapport develop. The coach and the client will have an objective assessment and common language to use to discuss habits, preferences, and perceptions.
Beth’s go-to assessments are DISC and MBTI.
Every client she works with takes one or both. A session is devoted to the debrief which will look at the client through that lens. On and after, Beth and her client create a common language that can be used to refer to when examples come up.
Beth also frequently conducts 360-assessments. A 360-assessment, when done carefully, respectfully, confidentially, and at the right time, can be a watershed professional development experience. However, not every client wants one or is in a situation that would make it beneficial.

Masterman Executive Coaching Customized 360-Assessment
”Intellectual honesty, rigorous commitment, and active truth-seeking are sine qua non to any self-awareness process.” ~~Anthony K. Tjan
A 360 Survey is a valuable tool for deepening self-awareness and provides an opportunity to develop a key leadership skill – the mastery-of-self. When clear on the talents, qualities and strengths others value in you, then you can choose whether and how to use those qualities. Knowing and noticing in real time, your shortcomings and qualities that derail your performance or relationships, enables choice and the ability to make adjustments to alter the way other people perceive and react to you. A more complex awareness of ‘self’ in relation to the present is part of the ongoing process of professional and personal development.
The results of a 360-Assessment reflect people’s perceptions – not necessarily TheTruth – but a reality even if you don’t agree. The perceptions are out there. Perceptions impact the culture, relationships, and expectations at work. Usually, there are discrepancies between how you see yourself and how others see you, in both positive and negative directions. Understanding the gap through clear and compassionate debrief and coaching help to solidify the value of the 360-Assessment results.
I offer a confidential, customized, hybrid (electronic and interview based) 360-Assessment. Participating in the 360-Assessment is a watershed opportunity for personal growth. The outcome of a well delivered 360-Assessment is heightened insight and enhanced ability to choose with intention:
- How you want to show up
- What organization or leadership skills you want to develop
- How to address the gap between how you see yourself and how others perceive you
- What you might do differently to better manage yourself and others and
- Whether to act or to remain / appear neutral.
You receive an executive summary highlighting areas of particular interest along with the full report.
HeartMath® Certified
“By using your heart as your compass, you can see more clearly which direction to go to stop self-defeating behavior. If you take just one mental or emotional habit that really bothers or drains you and apply heart intelligence to it, you’ll see a noticeable difference in your life.”
~~Doc Childre (founder)
HeartMath was founded by Doc Childre in 1991 to help individuals, organizations and the global community incorporate the heart’s intelligence into their day-to-day experience of life. HeartMath technology does this by connecting heart and science in ways that empower people to greatly reduce stress, build resilience, and unlock their natural intuitive guidance for making better choices. The tools and technology help you to self-regulate your body’s response to stress and to build resilience. You gain more resilience and vitality, overall sense of well-being, mental clarity and focus, improved relationships, increased composure in challenging situations, more effective communications, and better cooperation among co-workers and team members. The tools and technologies used are research-based, practical, and reliable and enable people to align and connect their heart, mind, and emotions to produce transformative outcomes—with more flow and less stress. In essence, HeartMath’s products and services are designed to empower people to improve their experience of life and bring their best selves to their personal, social, and professional lives.
The resilience training includes training on use of the emWave and Inner Balance technologies to see your heart rhythm pattern in real time. HeartMath research has found that the emotions we experience directly affect our heart rhythm pattern – and this, in turn, tells us something about how our body is functioning. These graphs show examples of real-time heart rate variability patterns (heart rhythms) recorded from individuals experiencing different emotions.
Hogan Assessment
“The key to success in business is money and people. No matter how well you handle money, if you get the people part wrong, you will lose.”
~~ Robert Hogan
As a Hogan-certified coach, I will debrief your results with you and discuss the potential implications, reflect with you on the information gained through the assessment experience, and work with you to leverage that information to facilitate your ongoing development. The core assessments measure normal personality characteristics, career derailment risks, core value drivers, cognitive style, and decision-making ability to provide insight and solutions for employee selection, development and coaching. Organizations using Hogan rely on the tools to improve quality of hire, facilitate individual development, and enhance team effectiveness. As the traits measured by the Hogan tools are particularly relevant for leadership, the assessment suite is also used for leadership development from middle management to the executive level. Scores on the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI), Hogan Development Survey (HDS), and Motives, Values, Preferences Inventory (MVPI) will be interpreted in light of the individual’s current job context and future goals. There is no such thing as an ideal score or personality profile.
Hogan assessments can be used for a variety of talent management initiatives, from pre-hire selection to executive-level development.
- Predict job performance – Hire better people by measuring basic employability, work style, safety consciousness, and organizational fit.
- Evaluate career derailers – identify and mitigate performance risks that can degrade leadership success, erode relationships, and damage professional reputation.
- Identify potential – find and develop your organization’s next generation of top talent.
- Leadership development – leverage the strategic self-awareness gained through Hogan’s assessment process with executive development and coaching.
- Pair with 360° data and other performance indices – reveal the underlying characteristics and values that drive the behaviors identified in the 360° process.
